    I fell for Vans checkerboard slip-ons the very first time I saw Sean Penn wearing them in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." I thought they were just about the coolest shoes I'd ever seen, and I just had to get myself a pair. I've had at least one pair in my closet at all times ever since. I thought they were totally amazing back then, and I still feel that way about them today. Obviously a lot of people agree, because they seem to be more popular now than ever. I currently have 3 pair that I wear really frequently. I love them for their high style and for their versatility -- they look great with just about everything. They always draw favorable attention/comments too, which is fun. I suspect I'll be wearing Vans slip-ons for as long as I live or as long as they're made, which I hope in both cases will be forever! :-)

    nice looking, falls apart

    I love the shoes but this is the 2nd pair Ive purchased in the last year and they have both fallen apart. I shouldn't pay [$] dollars for something to last 4 months.

      They are mostly true to size but just a tiny bit too narrow for my feet. I do have wide feet though. Other than that, they're perfect. I have multiple pairs and will continue to buy them until I die.

          These are easily one of the most comfortable shoes you can buy for everyday wear. They work just as easily with shorts and a tee as they do with work chinos. They're obviously not for running so don't expect that, but the classic slip ons will admirably handle just about anything else. 10/10. Will buy again

          This is my 3rd pair of vans shoes, my 2nd pair with the checkerboard pattern. I wanted the same as my previous pair (black and yellow chex) but they apparently no longer have them.

          That pair survived the past 8 years. Yes, 8 years of near daily use. The inside sole is gone, only rubber, there are now large gashes in the fabric, the color is washed. However, that old pair, remains one of the most comfortable shoes I've even warn. So, you can see why I have high hopes for this new pair.

          So far, they're a little tight. Especially on the inside of my right foot. Pinches a little bit, not hurting, just let you now its there. Even after wearing the pair for a few hours, it was not painfully at all, just a little snug. I was thinking about returning the pair, but, I've broken them in now and they're very comfortable.

          The one thing that annoys me about vans is that they have very poor traction on slippery surfaces. Other than that they are very grippy.

          Now, lets see if this pair lasts 8 years light my last?
